KATHMANDU - Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, President of the Agriculture, Cooperative, and Natural Resources Committee in the House of Representatives, has expressed her commitment to actively engage in the formulation of women-friendly policies and laws within the parliament.
As a longstanding advocate for women's rights and a central member of the Congress, MP Deuba issued a statement on Friday in commemoration of International Women's Day. She emphasized her dedication to spearheading policy reforms aimed at enhancing women's access to information technology. "As a member of the House of Representatives, I will personally take significant strides to ensure the implementation of women-friendly policies and laws," she asserted.
Dr. Deuba underscored the importance of policy adjustments to foster gender equality in technology access and amplify women's voices within the digital sector. "Women's empowerment transcends mere gender concerns; it necessitates the active involvement of both women and men," she stressed.
Highlighting persistent global disparities against women, she lamented the inadequate levels of women's access to opportunities such as education, healthcare, and employment. "Women encounter workplace discrimination and encounter barriers to equal opportunities," she remarked, emphasizing the collective effort required to surmount these challenges. "It is imperative for all of us to collaborate in dismantling barriers hindering women's progress across diverse spheres," asserted Deuba, Chair of the Agriculture Committee.
Comparing the plight of Nepalese women with those in developed nations, Dr. Deuba decried the discrimination and exploitation prevalent in meeting basic needs. "The pursuit of justice and equality is not solely for women but for all genders," she declared. Citing constitutional and legal provisions facilitating women's participation and representation, she celebrated Nepalese women's achievements despite prevailing challenges. "We, as women, are the vanguards of families, communities, and nations, with a rich history of success across society's spheres. Yet, our journey is far from over," she remarked.
Dr. Deuba concluded by acknowledging the global observance of International Women's Day through various programs, reaffirming the ongoing commitment to women's advancement.
