Tragedy struck in Chainpur-Bajhang as a recent earthquake claimed one life, with 11 individuals sustaining injuries and 135 houses left in ruins. The unfortunate casualty was 40-year-old Gunamati Dhami from Jaiprithvi Municipality-11, Okhal.
Dipesh Chaudhary, the Information Officer of the District Police Office, along with Police Inspector, reported that Dhami lost her life in a landslide triggered by the earthquake that shook the region on Tuesday. A police team has been dispatched to assess the situation.
Among the injured, two individuals have been discharged after receiving medical attention, while nine are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
The injured include seven-year-old Salina Joshi and Pramila Joshi of Jayaprithvi Municipality-11, 18-year-old Sunita Rokaya of Khaptadchhanna Rural Municipality-7, three-year-old Nitik Bohara of Jayaprithvi Municipality-7, Elisa Bam from the same location, 15-year-old Teara Rokaya of Mashta-3, 13-year-old Savita Rokaya of Mashta-1, 36-year-old Shantidevi Thapa from the same area, 23-year-old Ammar Jagri of Durgathali Rural Municipality-6, 18-year-old Kamal Kadal of Talkot Rural Municipality-3, and 20-year-old Rama Pariyar of Jayaprithvi Municipality-10.
The earthquake also wreaked havoc on the infrastructure, damaging a total of 135 structures across Bajhang. Police Inspector Chaudhary reported that Thalara bore the brunt of the destruction, with 60 houses damaged, while Kedarsuun lost one house entirely.
In Vitthadchir, two houses were destroyed, and in Bungal municipality, four houses were left in ruins. Jaya Prithvi municipality also suffered with 41 houses damaged in the quake's wake.
