PM Advocates for Nepal's Compensation Rights at COP-28

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has highlighted the significance of viewing the UN climate change summit, COP-28, as an opportunity for Nepal to benefit from this global event.

During a program at the Nepal pavilion on the sidelines of COP-28 in Dubai today, PM Dahal stated that preparations were underway to secure Nepal's rights for compensation due to the losses and damages suffered from climate change.

"I consistently raised Nepal's plight in the face of the climate crisis, both at the UN General Assembly and in discussions with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, with a focus on the well-being of future generations," he reiterated.

Prachanda argued that the UN Secretary-General's visit to Nepal and its mountainous regions had helped spotlight Nepal's struggles amidst climate change on a global scale.

He emphasized the emerging sentiment that Nepal deserves compensation in this regard and expressed contentment that Guterres acknowledged Nepal during the COP-28 inauguration speech on Friday.

Recognizing climate change as a shared concern across all generations, he urged the Nepali team to present a strong and effective stance during dialogues and climate negotiations.
