Sathsathai and Nepal Medical Association Join Hands to Combat Climate-Related Health Challenges

KATHMANDU: In a bid to address the pressing health impacts of climate change, Sathsathai, a women-led non-profit organization, and the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) have formalized a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Thursday.

The four-point MoU underscores the shared commitment of both entities to tackle the adverse effects of climate change on vulnerable demographics, including women, children, senior citizens, and marginalized communities. It delineates joint efforts aimed at mitigating these impacts through collaborative interventions in healthcare, education, and social awareness.

Dr. Anil Bikram Karki, President of the Nepal Medical Association, and Prajeeta Karki, President of Sathsathai, presided over the signing ceremony, symbolizing a significant step towards fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration in addressing climate-related health challenges.

Simultaneously, initiatives focused on climate justice are gaining momentum in various Himalayan regions, with ongoing activities in Mount Everest, Melamchi in Helambu Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchok, and the Madhesh province.

Dr. Anil Bikram Karki expressed optimism about the MoU, highlighting its potential to galvanize collaborative efforts in addressing the intersection of climate change and public health. Prajeeta Karki emphasized the agreement's significance in bolstering effective responses to the health challenges posed by climate change.
