KATHMANDU - An avalanche has struck the Birendra Lake area in Chumanuvri Rural Municipality-1, Samagaon of Gorkha.
Dhejen Lama, a ward member, reported that the avalanche caused the footpath bridge between Samgaon and Samdo to collapse.
Lama stated, "The avalanche, resulting from snow that had been frozen for an extended period, caused the lake's water level to rise and washed away the footpath bridge. While minor landslides were frequent, today witnessed a major one."
She attributed the incident to rising temperatures linked to climate change, causing the previously frozen snow to fall. Residents near Budhigand's coastal area were alerted as the lake's outflow surged following the landslide. The water discharge from Birendra Lake has escalated significantly.
A police team from Samagaon Police Station is en route to the Birendra Lake area. The police confirmed that the road has been blocked due to the bridge collapse.
